Old Sailor New to the Forum

Pleased to find this good looking forum after many years of sailing. My name is Darrell and myself and my sig. other currently reside in the heartland ( Wichita, Ks. ). I moved here to spend the last years of life with my mother who recently passed. After many years in S. Fl. and Hawaii, I'm now anxious to get back to the coast. Lived aboard for many years in Ft. Meyers Beach and plan to return very soon. Boats owned over the years included the usual list of boardboats and liveabords to include one old Samson Cutter on windward Oahu and a Grampian 30 and a Willard 8 Ton in Ft. Meyers. We will be looking for the next cruiser and look forward to interaction with the forum. Other interests include restoration of classic Italian sports cars and I also spend time frequently on the Alfa BB, another fine owners forum.
Hello All and Highest Regards, Darrell

Welcome to CF - I have always loved the look and style of Alfas, just never had the courage to buy one! A Fiat (X/19) was interesting enough - for the mechanically challenged like me!.

Re: Old Sailor New to the Forum

Thanks for the welcome, David. I enjoy the Fiats as well and the X/19 was a very interesting design. The engine in our classic Alfas has derived from the design originally created in the early 50's and while it was very exotic in it's day it really is a very basic package. At this point I'm directing my energies to locating the next liveaboard cruiser since my stay in Kansas is drawing to a close. Your link to Refurb/ Refit of older boats is exactly my focus and something I've done several times in past years. Hope this forum can embrace a new member with more desire and resourcefulness than funding!

Regards, Darrell

That thread is a slow burn Input always welcome - even if only to reinforce what has already been said.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. Had a friend with a Samson cutter in Kaneohe many years ago. I think he built in SoCal and sailed it over.
kind regards,

Re: Old Sailor New to the Forum

Thanks for the welcome John L. I bought our Samson Cutter ( 40 ft. and not that great a boat ) moved it to Kahalu at anchor in 1977 and had a wonderful life for a couple of years. Sold string bikinis at the Kam Hwy swap meet every weekend and snorkeled and drank Blue Nun all week. Idyllic but eventually came back to the real world and started a family ( now grown ). Time to go again!!!

Regards, Darrell
