old but reliable

I'm Michel Savage, currently landlocked in Fredericton New Brunswick. Last 5 years in Thailand. Now, looking to live aboard in Nova Scotia, but cannot find any marina with reliable Internet. Still a writer, but far from the sea. Some may know me as Cruising World magazine writer. Still contributing editor there. Sailed full time for about 15 years, mostly on Westsail 32 and Alajuela 38. Atlantic, Europe, Africa, caribbean and Bahamas. Wrote several books in French. Was SAMS surveyor for 10 years. Taught celestial navigation, restored 4 boats so I know boatyard life quite well. Living in Canada and wanting to be liveaboard is difficult because of the weather, even in the short summer, but i must remain in Canada for at least 6 months unless I lose my "advantages". Anyone knows a good marina in NS with reliable internet, and docks available May 1st through Oct 31? Thanks.

Welcome to the Maritimes Michael. It sounds like you can stay just about anywhere. For the cost, I'd suggest Summerside Yacht Club. Membership fees are quite reasonable, and there's no "initiation" fee.

Lewisporte, NL sounds like it would work. Not NS but otherwise might fit your bill.

You get your slip from a Lewisporte Marina. Winter storage rates and haul rates are very reasonable. Slippage is not bad.

You join the Yacht Club and then have access to all their fine facilities. Kitchen, lounge, internet, washer, dryer, showers, freezer. Excellent sailing area. Heaven on Earth.

Yeah, everything is a compromise.

Have you looked at Baddeck in the Bra d Or lakes? I’m doubtful but maybe. There once was a marina at Dundee in the lakes and I did see a boat in the water there in February many years ago. Last I heard they were closed, but that also was a few years ago. Then there is the Lions Club Marina in St Peters on Cape Brenton. Again outside chance.

You might have better luck in the gulf side?
