Newbie - hello yachties !

Hi to all . Des Pollock from South Africa.

I am a newbie . finally bought my own yacht.
I’ve done a bit of coastal passages but always been 1st mate.

Just found this old beauty . 44 ft van da Stadt , that I’m now refitting . So I’m planing an Atlantic crossing - 2020.

A respectful Nod to all the skill and experience out there. 👍
I’ve browsed through some posts and have already found heaps of valuable info to help me prepare for the practical reality of ocean crossing.

Looking fwd to exchanging info

Rgds Des

Howdy Des, and Welcome Aboard CF!

You have come to right place.

Congratulations on your new boat.
"REDEMPTION" is an interesting and good name for a boat.

"New" boat posts beg to have photos of the boat. I will send you some tips on posting photos. Show her off, or she will feel neglected.

Bon Voyage on the Forum and on the water too.

We can call ourselves whatever we like! You may be called Richard Head? Was Dr. Hook the musician really a doctor?

Welcome Des

We're from Durban and set out in January last year and still going strong. Sailing in the Caribbean Windward islands at the moment.
Enjoy.

Re: Newbie - hello yachties !

Howdy guys

Thanks for the friendly welcome .

The name Redemption is dbl barreled. Of course.
The boat was lost - neglected and abandoned ,
the previous owner , a mate of mine , sadly got hit hard with cancer . He was sooo close to dying but made it just. as a result of the crippling private hospital expenses, he had to give up on his dream of restoring her for day charter application on the Dam where he has his lodge . Get the picture!

Not to stretch it out , the long and short of it is , my dream replaced his and he knew the yacht should go to me . Quote , “ I knew in my heart Des that you were the right guy For her .”
I offered him a minimal payout .

And Now the yacht will be liberated back into salt water .
5 months of daily love saw the yacht being redeemed to a touch of her former glory Days .now careening with a renewed Vigor in the step , we are well on our way to realize the new dream .

Renamed Redemption, she is reborn , loved and has hopes and dreams well alive again.
Just like some of us salty old sea dogs - we never die.

3 words describe how she sails.
Stealthy. Graceful with Finesse

Few pics attached
And a vid
