Although I've been following the forum for a while I've just become a member! My buddy and I are in the process of buying a 1976 Gulfstar sailboat with a questionable Perkins 4108M engine in it. I've seen other postings about how to deal with a, rusted, seized engine and I'm looking for information and suggestions before I get to PR to actually put hands on it. Thanks in advance for the help!

Well welcome here! Are you sure the engine is seized up?

My buddy tried to start it, one click, nothing. battery full. Lots of rust under valve cover. Put pipe wrench on it, no movement. Headed to PR in Jan. It's a good deal even with a bad engine. I'm unfamiliar with diesel, just want to proceed slowly to check it out and not make matters worse.
I know just enough about engines to say that it's probably better to buy a Gulfstar with a questionable Perkins in it then a nice engine with a questionable Gulfstar around it
Plenty of people here will be able to help you, tho it might be better if you post some more info in the Engines and Propulsion forum.
