new to sailing

Hi we are buying our first sailboat which is a Catalina 30. We live in Oriental NC. Once we get use to our new boat and sailing our bucket list is to go to The Bahamas.


any advice is welcome

Catalina's are fine boats, and the 30 should be fine for the Bahama's too. Just keep in mind it's meant to be a coastal cruiser, so make sure you watch the weather and such. They are a little on the light side since they are meant to sail well in good weather. I would say they lean more to the performance side of sailing than the cruising side. But they are good boats. Good room down below for comfort, and storage should be will be ok for 2 people. Plenty of others have done what you plan to do in the same boat. Lol, no pun intended.

My wife and I are on the same track as you. We have owned and lived aboard a Catalina 27 when we were young. This time around she wanted something a little heavier and sturdier and we ended up with an Endeavour 32. Not as roomy as your C30, but just a few features that add up to "sturdier." Still and all, The C30 is a fine boat for what you plan.
