New to sailing

Hey everyone! I just purchased my first sailboat, a 44 foot mono. I am early 20’s preparing to spend an indefinite amount of time sailing around the world. Look forward to interacting with you on the forums.
Any tips for a newbie are greatly appreciate!

Re: New to sailing

Welcome aboard!

That's a big boat to learn on. Be careful around the dock.

Thx-Ace

Re: New to sailing

The dock is my biggest concern already booked some lessons for that specifically.

Re: New to sailing

Yeap, welcome! And it sounds like a hassle, but getting a few days sailing lessons in a dinghy will greatly accelerate the process of learning how to sail. What boat do you have?

Re: New to sailing

Matg, the usual advice for a newcomer is keep the water on the outside, the mast pointing up, the keel pointing down and don’t hit anything that’s harder than water. I vaguely remember starting to sail when I was in my early twenties. I started on a much smaller boat but plenty of people have started like you on a cruising size boat. Stay humble, admit what you don’t know. Stay curious, learn from what you encounter. Stay confident, you will master this with time and experience. Stay safety conscious, always keep your crew’s and your own safety as top priorities. Enjoy the adventure you have set out upon.

Welcome.

Probably a good idea to update your profile for
Boat: & Location:

These parts of your profile displays under your UserName and saves having to answer the question repeatedly. A lot of answers are boat or location dependent.
