New to sailing.

Hey guys and gals. Just wanted to say hi, I have no sailing experience and have decided to pack my things buy a 41.1 yacht and learn to sale the world.
Please any advice would be appreciated, I have no idea what I am getting myself into.
Besides the obvious learn to sail comments, I would love any hints or tips from other live aboard boat owners.
I am 33 years old from Melbourne Australia, and and planning on doing this short handed.

Re: New to sailing.

Welcome aboard caldawson! Have you actually bought the boat already? How did you settle on 41.1? Good luck, and I'd recommend a fun, fast little boat to learn the basics on and join up with a local club to meet other like-minded folk and to get more time on a variety of other boats.

Re: New to sailing.

Make sure you have liability insurance.

Skip the 41' boat and spend a few years on a 12' boat and/or crewing on a race boat. Take a diesel mechanics course. Take a certified boating/sailing/navigation course.
