pirate New to Forum - Located in Lort of Los Angeles California

Hello everyone, ... Recently purchased a Whidby 42 which we are living on after selling our O-Day 37. My wife and I would love to meet others in our area that have done blue water cruising. Also, not sure if there are any other Whidby 42's in our area, but would be good to see other's set-ups etc.

Anyway, wanted to say hello and let the group here know we are excited about meeting new friends and learning from your experiences. We figure our first blue water leg will be from here to the Marquises'.

That is "Port of Los Angeles"

Re: New to Forum - Located in Lort of Los Angeles California

Hi, there, and welcome aboard.

We have two sets of Canadian friends who did years of sailing, each couple on a Whitby 42. Theirs were boats that didn't much like beating (which we do have to do sometimes), and on one of them, the hull to deck joint on the port side began to come agley, beating into trade winds conditions. I am not criticizing the boat, but suggesting you go to the effort to carefully check along the lengths of the hull to deck joint--perhaps there are nuts that need cinching down before you head off for the Marquesas.

Are you not going to stop in Mexico and head straight for the Marquesas? At any rate, enjoy, whichever you decide to do.

Thanks Ann for the response. Yes, we have read some and found the above experience has only happened a few times. The Whidby's have some decks riveted and others bolted. Ours is bolted and we have checked it as well as upgraded or I should say we are upgrading this as we work new stantion bases etc. Could go down into Mexico but probably will just head straight out for a few shake down cruises but who knows.
