Hello to all!
I am a rather well versed sailor but looking to learn much more as I hope to one day take my children out sailing without the aid of a man.
I look forward to being a part of your group here and hopefully learning a few things to get me on my way.

Last time I checked being a good sailor was all that is required. While we can all be better than we are. You could easily take your family within limits you can understand and handle if you face them in that context. Those limitations may diminish with time and experience but the idea is possible today! We all have limits. You have one advantage. You might one day have a crew. A full house beats singleton ace every time. If you can build a crew there are far fewer limits.

You start at the beginning to end up some place else. Sailing is more the journey than the destination. Try to find ways to make it a fun time. If you had fun the whole time, I doubt it matters where you are or how fast you go. I think your family would agree. Imagine an afternoon with everyone happy and having felt like they had a great time. If you do it often it could become a habit. You might get good at it too. So how bad could it be?

I am more than capable of anything, including taking my 'crew' out on the water for a fun day should I choose. I was simply posting a newbie hello.

Welcome, This is a great forum and I hope you enjoy it. Have the kids been sailing yet? There is nothing greater than seeing young ones get into sailing. Iwas watching the "old folks" racing here in Hopetown Bahamas the other day when a group of 6 Opti's came out and the spectator crowd (Us in our dingies) forgot about the others and only watched the Opti's race. The kids were all under 10 what fun!

How old are the kids? The best time we had on the water was with our children younger than 5. There are a number of self-sufficient women on this site.

Good to have you here on the forum. Lots of good clubs there and wonderful opportunities to sail in a community that doesn't mind boaters and sailors.

I'm sure you could probably do that already if you wanted.... but natural maternal instincts cause you to err towards caution...
Only time a guys any use is for holding the wheel/tiller while anchoring...
