Re: New Sailor Searching for His Dream Vessel

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

Re: New Sailor Searching for His Dream Vessel

Welcome aboard Andreas. A couple thoughts: Your first boat is not going to be your last most likely, and a good boat for you may not look like it at first. When I was 19 I wanted to get something beautiful, historic and wooden. A friend had a Columbia 24 for sale. I thought it was kinda ugly. But I sailed that boat all over the place around Santa Barbara and the more I sailed that boat the more beautiful she became. Good luck in your adventures. Get a Cal 28, or a Columbia 29 like mine!

Re: New Sailor Searching for His Dream Vessel

I quite like my Columbia 9.6. They can be found for a reasonable price, and they are a good size to single hand, though maybe a little large for what you are seeking. I'd not want to live on something under 30' personally, and while I could do a lot of costal cruising with mine, I'd want something closer to 40' to circumnavigate. I know lots of people have done it with less, but I'd prefer the options a larger boat provides. My first boat I had on my own was as Alberg kittiwake. 24'. Fun, but unbelievably slow. No tankage either.
