Love your Cabo Rico.

There is a boat pictured on your blog from your photos of walking the docks. Her name is Solstice. Any more photos by any chance?

Its definitely a Tartan. Not sure of the length but I think you're right.

Where is the boat? I know what you're going through- just bought my boat in Maryland; had it under contract since late January and didnt launch until 2 days ago. Hang in there! At least you have a beautiful Cabo Rico!

Re: New Owner Cabo Rico 38

Congrats CR38,

I have a 1989 CR38 in Tarpon Springs Florida, looks pretty similar to yours. Right now I am redoing all the exterior bright work. Not real fun in any case but with a crushed disc it's a real pain.

You will find your boat to very stable and sea kindly. Other sailors that have been on board have commented on how the boat seems to be on tracks.

One minor suggestion, for the bow trailer boards I tried using gold paint for the filigree, don't because it soon turns a muddy brown. I switched to bright yellow and turns out much better.

Corsair is still on the hard at Herrington Harbor. Fingers crossed for launch later this week.

Rich - thanks for the pointer. Interestingly I was considering the same treatment but was planning to use real gold paint and then cover with numerous coats of varnish. I wonder if that would work?

Re: New Owner Cabo Rico 38

I don't know. A lady was using a gold acryic on the entry sign to our neighborhood and it looks good. Just don't know how long it will last. I'll keep an eye on it. The other choice, of course, is gold leaf but it seems that if there is a whisper of air it becomes extremely difficult. The local craft store was selling gold leaf packets for about $8 and we don't need much, maybe someday. For now I'll settle for the bright yellow model airplane paint and put a coat of varnish over it; it still looks good after four years. I'm only going to be touching it up. I also considered at one time either bright red or burgundy to match the cove stripe. So far I'll stick with yellow.

It will take you a while to get used to the cutter rig but once you do, I think you will love it. As I implied earlier, there have been times I wished for a Winnebago but never doubted the boat to take more than I wanted.

Re-doing all the exterior brightwork once will convince you to maintain it rather than doing it all over again. But boy, if you do a good job you will probably bust your britches in pride. I get comments from just about all the sailors on the dock, not so much the power boaters but occasionaly.

Once again congrats, any new boat is a voyage of discovery.
