New Member - thinking about retiring

I’d like to introduce my self as a new member to the Cruisers Forum. I am an ‘old’ fart facing retirement and want to garner as much information before I buy a sailing yacht in the next year or two. I will most probably retire to Victoria, BC and sail the Juan de Fuca Strait, Straits of Georgia, north to the Queen Charlotte Islands and maybe southward along the west coast of the USA.

I had the opportunity to cruise the Caribbean on a 41' Morgan 35 years ago after University and am still a good dinghy sailor. Over the years I’ve always had a longing to cruise but a career, family and a fantastic wife have been first on the list.

I will be updating (re taking) my sailing knowledge with a review of Seamanship Sail, Navigation and Piloting over the next couple of years with the Canadian Power Sqn. This will ensure a safe re-introduction to sailing. I know that 'to know the sea' only comes with experience and miles and miles of wake. That will come with time.

I look forward to reading and, perhaps, posting thoughts on this forum.

Livedelife.

Welcome

When we last cruised the Caribbean about 6 years ago we encountered a number of Morgan O/I 41s. They were old farts too, but they were still going strong.

Thanks for reading & the welcome.

It's interesting the number of people on this forum. It's sort of addictive. someday I would like to cruise the Caribbean again. We did live on St. Kitts for a couple of years but have since sold our house there. I'd like to sail the leeward islands again. When we do we will probably rent a sail boat from St. Maartin.

Aloha,
Welcome aboard! I couldn't think of a better place to retire and sail.
Kind regards,
