new member says hello

Hello
Inroducing myself to you all out there...

My only experience of boating is a trip on the "Oriana" from Sydney to London and frequent use of the Manly Ferry...
My husband has been on some trawlers so we are both complete novices...
BUT WE BOTH LOVE THE SEA.

So having said that we are planning to put our beachhouse on the holiday market and buy a liveaboard for us and our two four legged furry friends. Not quite sure where we will end up, I would even be happy spending a year sailing around Sydney harbour before going outthere...

All comments and suggestions gratefully recieved.

Nice to see you here, you will find that this is a good place to ask questions and learn.

As for your plans, liveaboard in Queensland in the warmth, or hide aboard in NSW in the cold. And i am not a Queenslander

Something similar....

I'm planning something similar but I will have to build my own boat as I cannot afford a boat of sufficient quality to do what I want.
The boat that I am currently panning to build is :-

with quite a few modifications to make it more suitable for long distance powerboating.

Welcome

Welcome aboard, nice to see another Aussie!!

Sydney Harbour is a great place to sail, sharpens all your skills especially on a weekend!!

While cruising in Sydney, make sure your itinary includes to explore Broken Bay, Pittwater and connected waterways just north of Sydney.

Fair Winds

Hi Michelle,

My husband and I both have similar plans to yours. We are from Perth, WA and are planning to cruise for a couple of years.

I recently read a great Australian book by Mari Rhydwen, called 'Slow Travel'. She and her husband sold their house, bought a yacht and cruised for 3 years. They went to places such as Thailand, the Chagos Archipelago and as far as Tanzania! I found this book to be very inspirational. She had very little sailing experience like myself but was very motivated to learn.

Good luck with your plans!

Chris31415,

I would think that even if you were able to scrounge a lot of the building materials cheaply, and paid not a red cent for labor, you still should be able to find a good used boat or similar size and quality for way less than it would cost to properly build the Glen L design that you are considering.
