I wish
Seychelles was my home but we live near
Cape Town that is also nice though the
water is half Seychelles’ 28 Celsius.
We are couple of friends that co-own a 2014
Leopard 51 PowerCat. We all like sailing too, but reality is in
Seychelles nice
weather there is no
wind. We see maybe 1 out of 10 charters there under sail. In Seychelles bad
weather, you don’t want to be sailing for fun either.
Other than Seychelles,
boating experience is a bit of time Friday Harbor, some
Croatia and then mainly off the South African coast. I look in envy at members here that predominantly live onboard. One day, when
sold business, maybe we’ll
charter a
sail boat prob
Med to keep
family happy. They are not into weeks long crossings, the 150 nautical mile jumps we sometimes do at Seychelles is basically the limit of avoiding a mutiny. Seychelles is very fortunate to not have
hurricane type weather, but with mix of 50m shelf and 3000m drop-offs around equator it can turn unpleasant quickly.
Onboard, it being tropics, time is mostly snorkel &
scuba and a lot of
fishing. If you can’t catch big
fish in Seychelles, you forgot to put a hook on the lure. The
Leopard is a nice platform for four couples and has excellent space flybridge, rear, forward and excellent air flow. Robertson & Caine did good job on design.
Being tropics, long distance yacht management is a challenge. There are many yachts there but finding people that will do what is needed right the first time is near impossible. So most trips involve a lot of
DIY.
