I bought a little 32 trawler this spring after 30 years of sailing. It's a little known double ender... kind of a fishing trawler, but got enough room for two of us. I'm going to miss those sailing reaches... but it's a new adventure and got room for our two pups to run on deck! I wont miss going down the laddder to the cave! There's some bargains out there.

trawlers

A trawler in the near future
I'm looking into an 80's Albin 36 or a Monk 36 . I want to base it in Nassau where I'm moving to in Dec 08. I plan to cruise around the Bahamas in my free time. It will be my wife , my 2 yrs old son and myself . I see them for around 75 K , but with this economy , I'm hoping for 25% less, with cash. Oh, I'm new to trawlers. Sailed for a few yrs. but a back injury ended that

Any thoughts?

Greetings, and WELCOME aboard Fred.

You’re finding much better pricing than I did (Monk 36).
My pricing research on the Monk 36 duplicates Jack Hornor’s as excerpted below.

“... While researching this article I found 12 used boats for sale ranging from $110,000 for a 1983 model to $344,000 for a 2006 model. A new 2007 boat is offered by North Sea Yachts at $328,000. I was able to find only three recently reported sales--all pre-1992 models whose average selling price was $138,000 ...”

trawler prices

I'm looking at the Albin 36 and the Monk 36.(mid 80 s) In my price range the Albin seems to fit. I heard both boats were of similar quality. But the prices of the Monk are close to double, as you pointed out. Does anyone know if the Monk is vastly superior?

Thank you
