New Member in Mexico

I just joined the forum after "lurking" for several months. I have a Cal 2-46 which is moored in Puerto Vallarta, (or more correctly, Nuevo Vallarta). usually spend the dry/sailing season on the boat and then retreat to my home in the mountains of central Mexico for the summer/hot, wet season. I'm happy to offer assistance/advice to folks coming to PV when I'm there, usually Nov to May. I can be reached on the "net" CH 22. Call "Splish Splash".

I love Gig Harbor...one of the few South Sound Hamlets I would live in.

I may be delivering a Cal 2-46 from Hawaii Island to Oahu this weekend if the owner doesn't have a contract to sell sometime this week. I've sailed as crew on his boat several times and know them pretty well. Gobs of room below. A perfect liveaboard!

There are four main marinas in Bandaras Bay,

Marina Vallarta: oldest, most convenient to the main part of PV/tourist area, has fuel dock and haul out facilities. A little tight for larger vessels, several shops and restaurants, mostly Gringo area of condos etc. Expensive.

Nueva Vallarta Marina; 8 miles up the coast, newer, only partially finished, some slips w/o water/electricity, no other facilities, no security, Very Expensive for what you get, some shops and restaurants in walking distance or dinghy to PVM side.

Paradise Village Marina: just across the lagoon from NVM, full service (but no fuel, no yard), located in Paradise Village Resort, excellent security, sheltered w/ good maneuvering, access to Vallarta Yacht Club, (fun, very informal, excellent food, check out our website, (vallartayachtclub.com), large shopping mall, restaurants, small chandlery, nicest marina in the Bay. rated one of the 100 best in the world, mostly Gringo area of condos, apts. and hotels, Not Cheap!

Marina La Cruz: 10 miles further up the coast, new, large, easy maneuvering inside breakwater, club house, fuel dock, yard, easy walk to the small but nice friendly Mexican town/shops, restaurants, Least Expensive.

On The Hook: just outside Marina La Cruz, good holding in sand bottom (30-60 ft.), access to dinghy dock in MLC, Free, but can be rolly if weather pipes up,

I'm at present, on a private dock in the lagoon near the Paradise Village area, it came with the boat but I could have to move on short notice if the property is sold. If that occurs, I'd move to La Cruz for the summer (better rates) and back to Paradise Village during the "season" (that's where most of my friends are and I'm involved with the junior sailing program at the club). Thank you for an excellent write up. Very helpful.
It is nice to have an idea before you arrive. We would like to spend some time in PV so it is important to us.
I just sailed friend's boat to Ensenada couple of days ago and had a chance to check marinas there. He (my friend) will probably sail with us from Ensenada to PV so our flotilla gets bigger...
