New Member from Canada
Hey all, I came across this forum from doing google searches. It seemed every time I was looking for information it would direct me to this site. Have been reading for a couple weeks now and have decided that I need to be a member.
So a little background on myself. Don't own a sailboat and don't know how to sail. I gained an interest while doing a 10 day charter with my girlfriend in the virgin islands. We have decided to buy a boat and learn to sail. We plan on doing this out of British Columbia. After a couple years of learning we hope to sail to the carribbean. We will be living on the boat as being relatively young we can't fund both a house and the boat. As we both enjoy the minimalist lifestyle we feel this is a good choice for us. We hope to some day gain enough experience to sail the world. I need help picking a boat but I will look for the right forum to do so.
Loving the wealth of information available here so far!

Welcome aboard! Hope you find your perfect boat. I loved cruising through the islands last year, even if it was by ferry!

Welcome fellow Canucks
I will second the notion that you are headed for some of the finest cruising grounds in the world.
If you have any questions about sailing instruction in BC, please feel free to ask me. I have worked with and for most of the sailing schools and know the owners of the larger ones.
I will PM you my email.

While the forums have a wealth of ideas and some useful information its hard to beat a real live human being when you start walking onto boats. If you hang around marinas and start learning to sail you'll eventually meet someone who can come with you as you start looking at boats. The most important rule of buying boats (or anything for that matter) is don't fall in love with the first one you see - or even the 31st one. There's lots out there - look at all of them.
You didn't say exactly where you are but if you do there's enough BC residents on here that maybe somebody can point you at some specific local resources.
