...to the Cruisers Forum community....also my first post.

I've been sailing on and off most of my life. As a child, my father bought me a Sunfish and that planted the sailing seed. As a teenager I crewed with a family friend on a Cal 30. I even had the opportunity to race alongside Ted Turner before his America's Cup days. Other than the Cal 30...my sailing has been on smaller boats such as Hobies, Prindles...and currently own a refurbished 1964 Thistle.

So anyhow....I'm contemplating the purchase of a 40-ish foot monohull....to cruise the Gulf, Keys, Bahamas and Caribbean. But before I jump into this...I want to make sure big-boat ownership is for me. I've got a lot to learn. So with that said, I'll be looking to help crew with some of you folks if allowed. I'm in great shape for my age (60). I'm a gym rat and physically fit with a laid back demeanor....non-smoker and only drink occasionally. I can take it or leave it. I can travel to various ports to meet up, and can help financially with expenses.

So with that said....thanks for a great forum and I look forward to meeting some of you. I'll cross-post this to the "Crew Wanted" forum.

Re: New Member...

Well, drifter, welcome to the CF. Your plan sounds way better than many first post plans we see, and with your apparent attitude and background, I think you'll get some rides and some experience. If you were in Oz, we'd likely give you a ride and an intro to folks who need crew some of the time... I bet there will be similar thoughts in your neck of the woods.

Good luck and good sailing.

Jim
