Hi, I am Olli from Germany and new to this site. I am in the market for a new boat and narrowed my search down to three or 4 boats.
I would love to get some input from people who know them, own them or have sailed them.
To myself: I started sailing at a young age. Firstly on dinghies, then on 420 and 470. Later on on Hobies. My first experiences on bigger boats I had in the Mediterranean when I was around 15/16 years old.
My cruising licenses I did on a Hunter 40 and a Bavaria 42.
I am not a blue water cruiser but it is my intention to outfit a boat accordingly within the next 2 years and leave Germany. I am searching for a good liveaboard with blue water potential. Preferably sloop rigged. Suitable for a crew of maximum 4 with the possibility to accommodate guests sometimes. After month and month of shopping around. I came to like following boats.

1. 1991 Jeanneau Sunkiss 47
2. 1971 Le Comte Fastnet 45 ( really drawn to this boat )
3. 1980 Gulfstar 50' ( little worried about the ketch rig, never sailed it)
4. 1976 Plaver Sciarelli 49'( ketch rig as well )

As said, I would appreciate any input I can get regarding these boats.

Welcome to CF

When you say a maximum of 4 crew, what will the minium likely be, will you be single or double handing?

I suppose this stuff still works, but they might have spent some money on new electronics over the last 50 years.

Thanks for your reply. Mostly double handling. But on shorter distances single handling as well. I would post the links to the boat but somehow that doesn't work. They are all listed on boat24.com and the boats are in Europe. Only the Morgan is in Michigan and listed on yachtworld.com

Somewhat I also looked into a Lafitte. Well priced in Italy. But the teak deck really scares me.

Thanks Gord ! Thunder Bay, eeh? I did my Basic cruising license on Georgian Bay 14 years ago. Took of from Penetang. Don't even remember the instructor's name. He had a Hunter 40'. He always spent the winter months in the Caribbean. Bought later on a Jeanneau 45'.
But anyway I found sailing on Georgian Bay quite challenging at times. The wind blowing at you from all directions, gusting out of nowhere and changing directions all the time
Anyway, keep well and stay in touch.
