Smile New from Portland, Oregon

Hello all. In just two weeks and counting I depart Portland and head out to the deep blue, turn left and head to San Diego. Come Nov 1st I'll be headed on down to La Paz in the Sea of Cortez. I am retired and happily married, but my sweetheart is not up for the sail south, (and perhaps I am not either), nevertheless I will at least get started and see how things unfold.

Re: New from Portland, Oregon

Welcome Happy 1. I wish you a fair and relatively non-eventful sail south. La Paz is nice and a haven for cruisers, with activities centering on the Club Cruzeiros located in a hut at the Marina de La Paz. There are a number of informative threads here on CF of cruisers headed south from the PNW in previous years. As I remember, they have a lot of discussion of 'weather windows' for hopping down the coast. And many discussions of single-handed cruising. Do a search and if you can't find 'em, use the CF bat signal, and call out for GORD's advice, the man who can point you to any relevant info.

Let us know when you get here to SD and we may be able to arrange some festivities.

Re: New from Portland, Oregon

Thank you for your replies. Just two days ago my wife and I returned from La Paz having driven the entire pennisula yet again. A 4,600 mile round trip. I am fortunate to have a home in a gated community in Cabo, which we have now rented, but La Paz and the surrounding areas are the places I enjoy the most. So...it's time to get a boat down there.
