Hi, I am Hesti and I am new here ...


The reason for joining is, that I am making my first steps with openCPN - and I am struggeling with format conversions. But I will open a seperate threat for this.


As for sailing, I learned this in the mid 1980's in dinghies. The first own boat, a taditional wooden boat, was bought in the second half of the 1990's. An open keel boat and a 22ft cruiser followed. We cruised the 22ft in the East Frisian Islands, the area known from "Riddle of the Sands".



Boatless at the moment, I am now looking for something more seaworthy to extend our cruising grounds. Electronic charts on existing laptop is a topic in this context.

Gentlemen, thank you for the welcome.



Things are moving forward, we have looked at a candidate for a new boat yesterday and want to see two more the coming weekend.


Spec in short: Around 28 feet long (say +/- 2), shallow draft (1,2 mtrs max, less is better) for ability to sail the Waddenzee, seaworthy design, well built, in good and seaworthy condition throughout. Does not have to be a beauty, but the good and seaworthy condition throughout is a must. We will not have time for major work but only for a tiny bit of fitting out to our ideas, so, boats that require any mentionable work immediately are not a possibility. Location: North Germany, perhaps Holland and perhaps Denmark.

We bought a Hanse 291. Time is running, even though the boat appears to be well maintained, there is a check- and fitting out list 5 pages long ... The boat is at a local boatyard, I am hoping for their help on some topics.

Our last boat had 22 ft. Before we once had 26 ft. So, 29 should be huge, right? Well, considering what we may need and want to carry, 29 isn't that big. Especially cockpit locker space is a bit scarce, only being built in on port and in the lazzarette and in the port locker, there is a water and a fuel tank taking half the space. We may have friends or relatives visit us for a few weeks, so, we need to be able to sleep 4 at times.



The first thing that got deleted from the 5 page long list were folding bicycles. No way we can sleep 4 with luggage and have folding bicycles as well.
