New from Central PA

Hello, all. I'm Keith from Greencastle, PA. My partner Ann and I are looking into a smallish sailboat (<34') to retire to, live aboard and hopefully see the Caribbean. She's already retired, I have a few more years to go.
Neither of us has ever even been on a sailboat and one of us can't swim (I won't say which one).
I was in the Navy back in the 70s and love the water. My father had a plywood Chris Craft when I was a kid and we lived near the Magothy River so we had easy access to the Chesapeake Bay.
Ann and I are attending the Annapolis Sailboat Show at the end of April (2017) and will be taking a short sailing class.
I'm probably going to be doing a lot of reading and will try to search for the answers I need before posting a question.
I look forward to learning and making some friends here, as forums can facilitate both.

Greetings! You still have easy access, to an extent! My ex-wife's family lived in York PA and kept a boat on Weems Creek off the Bay. You're a bit farther away but it could work!

Is the one of you who can't swim receptive to learning? I think that would be wise.

Yes, but we will both wear PFDs whenever underway or on deck (unless tied up).

I've been a truck driver for almost 35 years so a couple hours drive is just a warm up. I'd like to eventually find a marina in the upper Chesapeake that allows live aboards and doesn't charge the equivalent of a mortgage payment for a slip. But first things first.

Hi from Alaska by way of PA long ago! If you can handle trucks on those Pennsylvania goat trails like hwy 30 or the turnpike at least I know you won't be scared in a sailboat!

Cheers-welcome
