I'm in the same situation. I am not planning to live on board right away, but I wanna get into sailing and I have no experience. I was wondering what did you end up buying eventually?

Hi sorry for the late response, I just saw your message. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm still fixated on those slower, older long-keel designs, mainly because they seem to be the strongest boats in the best condition in my price range. Now that the weather is beginning to turn, I should be able to get out and see some boats. I'm going to look at a Cape Dory 27 this month. What about you?

It's boatpoker's site. He (and Sharon) are the Marine Surveyor(s) par Excellence! as well as incredibly generous Forum Members.
Another (more rare) Alberg is the Triton. 28 feet.
You and Belle and Lexi are still putting the cart before the horse, though.
You all need to do some actual sailing - and more than once - before buying ANY kind of boat...

Re: New Cruiser from Troy NY - no sv yet
i sailed hudson river catskill creek to north troy and down to greenport 1955-1968. nothing wrong with sailing hudson river. so many who donot know that river diss it. however, the boat on which i learned, the eleanor, is a clinton crane raceabout homed in catskill ny. the eleanor is restored and ready to teach some new sailors.. contact louise egan bliss, of hudson river historic boat restoration and sailing society, hudson , ny, and see what can be done..tell her her cousin sent you.
sailing eleanor on hudson river is actually sailing.

by the way, i am sure louise and company will be able to find you a good surveyor locally.

We have a Cape Dory 27 up here and it could be available, contact the owner if for no other reason that to learn about it. rory.m.ken@gmail.com As him if he is going to shoot a video of it and to share it with you, if he does. All the best.

Thank you for the tip, but I've decided I need to go a little bigger. I've got my eye on a 34 footer. Thanks again!
