New columbia 26 mk 2 owner

Hello, everyone.

I am a proud owner of a new (to me) columbia 26 mk 2.

I am very green at sailing but i have been reading lots and ive spent the last 2 weekends out on the boat. Weather has been kind of crappy but its given me time to familliarize myself with her. Its moored innered up on the boat with my cousin who sold me a share.

She has a brand neww mainsail thats been on the boat 2 yrs under wraps, a mylar racing jib, a working jib, a spinnaker and pole, a (i think) 130% genoa mounted on the roller furl. Its really well rigged with extra cars, full backrigging for one handed operation, upgraded winches, inside is factory but mint. Ive bought crab traps, the licenses, a 10 ft tender (inflatable zod) bbq, downriggers, salmon rods, shipboard computer (blackberry plits been kitted out for racing by a previous owner.

I only have a problem with the head to deal with, it worked when i first stepped aboard but now the intake isnt working when i try to pump the sea watr in, so ive just resorted to having some 2l bottles of sea water in the head so i can flush it. There is no holding tank.

Outboard motor works good 8hp mariner 2 stroke.

One thing im looking for is some of those old pre encryption chs charts (canadian government charts). Apparently after 97 they put them in a crazy format, i have an android/playbook app that uses the gps from my phone and uses std noaa charts but it wont read the encrypted ones. I do have paper charts and 2 garmin gps handhelds on board but a decent basic electronic chart would be so much handier for basic navigation.

I have the vhf and sony sound too. Great deal for 4000 with a lucrative buyout option on the partnership.

Anyways, thats me. Hello everyone!

Welcome and congratulations. That was my second boat and I have many fond memories. Tough, roomy, good sailing (Bill Tripp RIP) design. Bill drew a lot of great boats, including yours.

Nice - i was reading about how bill trip designed boats that broke all the rules and very much outsailed what someone might think from looking at it.

Shes weathered the years really well, looks almost stock if it werent for all the racing upgrades.

I definitely will. Im sure the head wont be that hard to fix, it was working for the first night i spent on the boat. I think its just some slime caught in the intake, which is a PIA because its under the waterline.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Congratulations! Surprising performance from a boat that looks like it has a too high freeboard. Lots of room below which is a big plus.
kind regards,
