Welcome to CF!
When I first started I didn't know anyone either. I mean literally, I didn't know anyone. I had just transferred from
Puerto Rico to
Long Island NY with my job. First thing I did was read everything I could get my hands on, Chapman's,
Annapolis Book of Seamanship, all the cruising mags, everything. I figured at least this way, I could have a conversation with a sailor, if I ever met one, without referring to "the pointy end" of the boat.
I found out when
race night was (why is it always Wednesday evenings everywhere I go?) and volunteered to be rail meat. And that was the beginning. I found out quickly that
racing was not my thing, but I had made the contacts. The rest is
history, well my
history anyway.
Get the basics in your
head and then go find sailors. It always works, every
single time. We love to show off our boats, our skills, our knowledge, we just love a willing listener.
So good luck to you and have some fun!
