New Boat - New to Site

hi, although currently working in the Mojave Desert on the California/Nevada border, i have just bought a Searunner 37 in Honolulu and plan to begin refitting it this winter and hope to begin sailing it to Australia with many stops along the way soon thereafter. i will be looking for plenty of advice.
i have sailed for many decades and have owned smaller boats in southeast alaska and Lake Superior and have lived on other people's boats in the Caribean for 6 months a year 3 years. i have traveled some in asia, but never boated there. i haven't had time yet to study the forums so i will do that before i ask a lot of questions that probably have already been thoroughly debated. my number 1 interest is exploring the best coral areas. i prefer free diving but i do scuba. i also love hiking, remote anchorages and exotic cultures, besides many other things to numerous to mention. my overall plan is to only spend 2 to 3 months a year on the boat so i will be looking for safe places to
leave the boat with air connections along the way. i look forward to meeting many of you along the way. Don Arkin, Ivanpah

Welcome to CF.

Nice place to do a refit, if a bit expensive. Sounds like a good plan you have there.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here on the forum. There is some fine diving on Oahu and it would take too long to list all the places I really enjoyed. Once you've got your boat ready to go don't miss Hanalei on Kauai before you take off for other places. Not for the diving so much as the kick back relaxed atmosphere.
kind regards,

Re: New Boat - New to Site

We recently purchased a Searunner 31, but our sailing plans are 2-3 years down the road. We would love to keep up with your adventures! If you start a blog, please post here and on on the Searunners thread. Good luck!
