A swift, steady thwacka-thwacka provides the drawling locals and northern interlopers here with a soundtrack to their meal—a heap of pork that’s been hacked into pieces with two giant cleavers. The result—a mosaic of golden-brown skin and pink, juicy flesh served on a cardboard tray—is why Skylight is the champion of eastern North Carolina’s whole-hog-style barbecue. The only embellishment the meat needs is a touch of vinegar sauce.

the meat is so superlative that you’d be forgiven for thinking that the patrons bowing their heads before tucking in are mumbling exaltations not to Him but to proprietor Wayne Monk.
Here is a nice overview of the state of the art.

Charlotte - Lake Norman

We are from Charlotte - Lake Norman. We are currently cruising the Caribbean on our 38 foot catamaran. Been out for a year and loving it. Only hassle is trying to renew my North Carolina drivers license by mail.

Immrama, my Tartan 30, is in Oriental, NC. Don't tell anyone, we don't want any more people to come. It is a long way from Nashville where I live on land.

My Sabre 28 is on the outerbanks in Manteo, I just moved up from Wilmington, and before that I spent about 1 year at Whittaker Creek in Oriental. Anyone else on the OuterBanks?

Glad to see others in the Lake Norman area. I'm primarily a power boater at the moment but I'm currently restoring my little sabot so that I can teach my wife how ot sail.

Speaking of which, does anyone know the definitive answer as to whether or not I would have to register a sabot (8 ft sail only) on Lake Norman?

I've seen cats at Dowry Creek Marina, IIRC they have some dockside
space available, nice Marina, quiet. They are 2 miles from Belhaven.

Ditto for Coast Guard registration, can't believe they haven't gone to
internet re-registration.
