Mrs. Capt. Hook

I am new to the board. My husband Don Hiller was a member for over 10 years. Buying selling, or chatting up a storm. he passed away Nov.4,2011. We had been in the Bahamas for 2 months when he got sick. Came back to Fl. found out he had cancer in May. That ended our cruising and retirement. now I work part time and watch over my 84 year old mother. We had a happy and full life. Pat Hiller

Hi Pat,
Welcome to the forum.
There are no words that come close, but there's a great family here and no doubt your experience will add credibility to your participation.
What were you sailing?

He died doing what he loved to do to the end and with you near him.
Without forgetting all the suffering you and him have endured, I'd rather like to have the same ending if a choice was given to me.
We are all sharing your loss.
Welcome to the forum.

Re: Mrs. Capt. Hook

I'm also sorry for your loss. There is no better life than boating. We boat full time in Michigan summers & now are going to live aboard in Florida winters.
Depending on your faith your husband lived to die.......to live again.
I'm glad you had a chance to pursue your passion. Huey2

Re: Mrs. Capt. Hook

I lived my whole life in Mich. I lived in Owosso. We lived in Bay city, Mi. for 2 yrs. until 2001 when we left on a year cruise to Fl. and the Bahamas. We then stoped in West Palm Beach, Fl. Till we retired Last year. Yes we had some great adventures on our trip.

Re: Mrs. Capt. Hook

It's a blessing that the two of you were able to cast off the dock lines for some years of wonderful adventures before you husband became ill and you lost him....its a testament to those who advocate going sooner than later. I have known too many who waited too long and then never got to live their dream. Cruiser's forum is a wonderful way for you to stay connected to that dream and one day you may find yourself sailing again.
