Mexdon

Hi All, another newbie albeit an oldie. A sailor, coastal and occasional offshore all my life started at 7 in Auckland NZ (Z class the an Idle Along IA) both engineless, progressed through trailer sailers to a couple of keelboats and operated dive excursions in Mexico (using a panga style 8 metre launch). Now about to start the purchasing process into an offshore cruiser and enjoy what time I have left doing what I should have done a thousand years ago. I now live in Mexico...have done so for 20 odd years and will shortly resettle from being land locked to being water locked somewhere in the Mar de Cortez.

Re: Mexdon

Thanks all for the welcome. I'll be asking a mountain of questions in the coming weeks....won't say months as the purchase will have been made by then. To zeehag, where do I look online to see the 153? However is there an advantage of buying in USA, re-flagging (I'm a kiwi in Mexico on an FMT and the occasional FM3) and getting her into Mexico on a TIP? Also any upgrading on a "new" used yacht would be better done in the US than in Mexico. I make this observation from experience when operating my dive operation but am open to more recent opinions / experiences.

Re: Mexdon

there is a yacht broker--2 actually , one on either end of the marina, with many for sale---can ye come out to mazatlan for a day or 2? one brokerage has branches in lapaz and guaymas, also.....upgrades are just as well done here as in usa and for much less money. parts are harder to find and easier to make here in mexico. fabrication is awesome here. parts can be mailed or shipped and installed in mexico. into mexico ye have to import boat. sa n carlos ha smany for sale also--youmay want to travel a tad to search.... the owner of the yacht brokers here has boats in san carlos/guaymas, la paz, mazatlan, somewhere else also. 5 offices. tonys yacht services i think is name but i dont have fone number or email ....

Re: Mexdon

Thanks zeehag, I'll look up Tony's on the net. At the moment I am sitting in a hotel in Auckland NZ looking over viaduct harbour...mid winter but a beautiful warm day. Here on business until the end of the month then back to Mexico. Going back in as a trist with the new FMM format so don't know what the implications are for the future and according to my research nor does anyone else. Interesting to here your comments on work done in Mexico completely different from my experience in the 90's. As far as popping over Mazatlan that will not be a problem after a couple of weeks back home.

Re: Mexdon

Check out San Carlos. Lot's of good deals there, especially in terms of boats that have been stored on the hard.
