Talking Meetz & greetz

Land lubber today. Owner / Captain soon?

Truly? I'm totally new sailing. I used to go out with the folks as a kid on the family motor boat on the river. Water skiing up & fishing ETC was awesome when I was a kid. I was on water ski's before I was ever on even a moped & I loved every min of it.

Now I'm a "little" older & a LOT wiser. I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm wanting to buy a 45' - 50' cat, get my license & do my own thing jumping from port to port all around the world. I've been studying as much as I can through the screen on my laptop. Not only reading the books but soaking in all the experiences possible from YouTube ETC. I understand that I'm still more than a stones throw away from being Bristol fashion. So a few things about me to understand..

Cursing like a sailor? I've got that down pat. I do try to reel it in when online but occasionally I do slip when I'm passionate about something. I'll probably ask a LOT of really stupid questions, I don't always catch on the first time & occasionally have to bleed through my knuckles before I understand something as I'm not too mechanically inclined. Please be patient with me, I can be stubborn. Most of my jobs have been in tech, I've literally clicked the mouse for a living & I'm looking at this as an opportunity to learn how to use various materials & tools to do things. (Like fiberglassing a boat if need be, changing spark plugs ETC) I have a strangely dry sense of humor, love to laugh & generally get along with everyone. It seems there's always that one guy though am I right? I'm fully aware sometimes it's me standing against the wall & I'm ok with that.

Re: Meetz & greetz

Welcome. It sounds like you are ready to learn from others rather than by the barked knuckles route. Since the consequences to learning it the hard way with a 45' catamaran can be seriously detrimental to your life expectancy, could I suggest time with experienced cat sailors before you purchase or go on your own? I say before purchase because that experience with boats may alter your ideas of the boat you want. Switching boats is very expensive - in at the top of the market and out at the bottom in the extreme. Experience with others will let them make the mistakes (On my first crewing trip at age 16 my captain got us into keel-banging surf - I learned navigation after that). So, I hope you'll go hang out with the cat sailors. Oh, and avoid spark plugs. Diesel is the safe way to go.
