Meet "Silver Wings", a Halvorson cruiser
Hi all,
We are new to boat ownership, and have just bought our first boat.
She is a 30foot Halvorsen wooden cruiser and is located on the Gippsland lakes in Victoria, Australia.
Since owning her, we have come to realise she has really not been looked after for many years! We desperately need to get a lot of things fixed, including the engine, can as and the hull...among lots of other pieces.
I have set up a GoFundMe page for any help to allow us to fix this beautiful lady. Without help, it will take us many years to get her back to her former glory.
I hope we can save her!
Thanks
Karl & Sarah

 Welcome Cowwee..
Saving old boats is an honourable task in my book..
You'll find lots of information here.. Take advantage of the "search" tab on the upper right and use the google search box with in it..
There is more information there than you can imagine.. be specific.. almost every conceivable topic has been talked about at one point of another..

Uh oh. Remember how the young couple wrecked at John's Pass were treated here when it was learned that they set up a Gofundme page? Some people condemn altruism because they were never beneficiaries of it; but how much darker our world would be without it. No one ever helped me, but I feel better about the world when I see others being helped. Just mho.

That's fine if people don't like it.
If I get nothing, that's ok. But it will take us years to get her back to being usable again. I wanted a way to try and speed up the work we need to do.
I'm just hoping there are people out there that are able to help us get things done quicker.

Re: Meet "Silver Wings", a Halvorson cruiser
Are you planning on using this boat for some kind of charitable purpose once you fix it up, or are you looking to get other people to give you their money they work hard for so you can go boating?
You do realize that 13% or 2.9 million people are living below the poverty line in Australia.
For people who want to help someone really in need here is a link to a charity for the homeless in Australia, I want to thank the OP for reminding me their are people out there with real problems. I am going to donate some money to Mission Australia.

I think simply asking people to help fund your restoration because you can’t afford it yourself, after not knowing what you were getting into is not going to be very productive. No value judgement intended, just simple fact.
If you want any meaningful donations you need to offer value in return. An example can be found if you search on “Tally Ho Restoration” on YouTube.

Thanks. We are really new to this, so am open to suggestions.
I've seen lots of other people ask for help, so we thought we'd give it a go too!
I'd appreciate any suggestions....if it's not the right thing that we are doing, then that's ok. I just don't appreciate idiots spouting off without being productive and offering alternatives.

Re: Meet "Silver Wings", a Halvorson cruiser
Cowwee, the greatest and worst thing about CF is you’re going to get opinions that will range from uplifting help to drown yourself. MANY people here don’t even have boats but will still give you their opinion.
Take the good stuff, leave the bad stuff and understand that even if you get a million dollars on your gofundme page, someone will be bitter about it. Stop replying to and acknowledging them.
Go have fun, fix your boat and if anyone gives you money, they did it because it’s their money and they can do what they want with it.
Good luck.

Re: Meet "Silver Wings", a Halvorson cruiser
Hello Karl and Sarah,
i wish you all the best in restoring her to her former glory.
We had Silver Wings for about 15 odd years, we had her in A1 perfect condition in Metung. So sad to see her in this state.
Keep in touch if you need anything.
Julian.
