Looking for Popeye and Dad

I have a dear friend, who I call "Popeye" and his father, whom I warmly refer to as my own "Dad", on a lovely sailboat called KISMET from San Fransisco, Ca.

They both have been sailing around the world for about 5-6 years and are currently in Langkawi, Malaysia at The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club.

I haven't heard from either of them for 4 days. We usually communicate on a daily basis, and if they do need to take a visa run or a visit to the doctor's office, I'm usually informed before they go.

Last we chatted, Dad told me him and Popeye were going to go play cards, and that was on January, 8th.

What would be the normal procedure to make contact in order to see if everything is alright? I am starting to have concerns.

Firstly, contact the office at the marina. There could be a myriad of non-emergency reasons that they've not been able to contact them.

Secondly, try posting here, at noonsite and SSCA with a post titled- Royal Langkwai Yacht Club Sailors to get attention from those who might be in the same YC.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well...

Olive Oyl, I can understand your concern but it may be something as simple as the wifi being out. The website for that marina is in English and the marina looks to be high end and probably used to dealing with transitting yachts. Unless you explicitly agreed they would contact you every day I would give it a few more days. If you don't feel comfortable waiting you might phone the marina and see if they are still there or email the marina. The marina's contact page is: Royal Langkawi Yacht Club - Contact Us

Could be they took the boat out for a few days and just forgot to tell you. Good luck.

That might be it, and I really hope it is. I'm not the one to push panic buttons, but I do have concerns.

As for contacts, nothing had been concrete as for communication goes, just assumed as we had been communicating almost on a daily basis.

KDH, they have been having problems with the internet, so maybe this is what it is.

Mimsy, you're absolutely right! I'll waiti a few days to see if I hear from anyone. It's probably nothing.

I thank you both for your quick replies and suggestions. I'll wait a few more days to see what transpires.

Thank you all for your help!
