Locating Sailor Friends
Where on the board would one post an attempt to locate a boat or captain or crew, from the past? He is still out there some place, probably in the BVI. Have searched but have not found the proper place to post such a request.

Never tried it but there is an ad column in Lat 38 for finding people or something like that.

My friend is Martin Bowmann, he is in his 60's and was or is the owner, and Captain of the 35' Privateer Ketch, "Juanita", out of New Orleans, La. As I understand, from friends returning from the BVI area in recent years, he is known as "Captain Foo" now, for various reasons. Apparently Foo means crazy.

orion1:
Likely not the same “Fou”, but, I had the good fortune to meet an extraordinary gentleman by the name of “ Captain Fou”, in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera (Bahamas).
Fou was instrumental in rescuing “Southbound” from the “Storm of the Century”, demonstrating uncommon bravery, remarkable fitness, and outstanding seamanship in leading the boat’s rescue from imminent doom.
Fou was a well weathered, small slim man, probably in his 60's at that time (March 1993), making him near 80 y/o today.
At that (distant) time, he was anchored at Tarpon Bay, Eleuthera; but had a Florida mail drop:
Captain Fou
1323 S.E. 17Th Street, Suite 441, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, 33316
Tel: (305) 524-4500 ~ Extension 441
Ft. Lauderdale area code since changed to 954.
HTH,
Gord

Thanks GordMay. Well, I am not sure, but that could be him as he was that type of person, always helping others, and totally fearless, and an excellent seaman and sailor.
I tried calling the number you furnished but it was a business with an answer machine. Will try again tomorrow at a better time.
I too remember the Storm of the Centry quite well it was in 1993. You could also be correct on the spelling of "FOU". I do not think he was 20 years my senior but I could be wrong about that also.
We are now back in our home in Slidell, and "ROSA" is on the hard in Mobile. We have pulled the stick and will be returning with tools and the like to began our projects.
The internet service is much better here. At times I could not sign in or out of the site in Mobile.

What problem are you encountering? Keep in mind, the size is limited. If the photo is not larger than the limits, PM me some specifics, and I will try to walk you through it.

Probably too many pixels. Photos were taken with 8 MP camera. May need to take some new ones as I do not know how to reduce or resize them or if that is even possible.

There are too many different photo programs for me to tell you how to make the photo smaller, but there should be an adjustment on the camera to adjust the resolution to 640x480. This will take the photo down to about 30 or 40k. If you have photo software such as "Zoom Browser" , HP Photo and imaging, Photobase three or Adobe Photoshop, I may be able to walk you through reducing the photo size.
A thought, when you load the photos onto the computer from the camera, or the memory card, the software you are using probably has an "edit" option. Somewhere in there should be an option to resize photo. If you need to enter it manually, as I said, 640x480 should be sufficient. If you have an option to choose the quality, pick low. This will further reduce the file size. If this doesn't help, email me the photo, and I will resize it for you.
