Landlocked to Cruiser

Hey folks!

My aunt and uncle were sailors until health issues forced them to retire. They've sailed around the globe; Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbeans, Australia/New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. They also participated in a couple of races I know of. They had a monohull at first then upgraded to a cat. I've joined them a couple of times, mainly at Bahamas and Virgin Islands. I love the ocean and I've always dreamt of cruising.

Wife and I are pushing our 40s. My wife is excited about this, we're looking to raise the anchor and sail the blue waters in 4 - 5 years. Gives us time to learn how to sail, get a boat, do some offshore cruising over the weekends, pay off our debts (especially financial aid), and save up to be able to cruise for a while. We love to travel and it's more appealing to experience the world on a boat.

I'm based out of Portland, OR but I've lived in San Diego, Sioux Falls, and Tampa. Daughter is going to university in Hawaii. There are a few classes on the river, we'll be signing up for those before getting a boat. We'll start with a monohull, probably a smaller one at first to wet our feet before upgrading to a 40' so we could ultimately live on it. I'm semi-handy but not with electrics & motors, I plan to learn this. Wife is tall so headroom is a must; she's also a chef so a decent kitchen is also a requirement. I'm very fond of cats but not the costs that comes with it.

And we're deaf, since birth. This is going to be fun.

Nice to meet y'all!
