Kiwis on the cusp of actually buying an off shore yacht.

Hi everyone. Were really enjoying reading the forum we are on the cusp of buying a 40 plus foot boat to sail the pacific and then on through malaysia/ indonesia. We've been looking and dreaming for many years now but reality has finally landed on our doorstep we put our first offer in on a yacht this week. (Roberts 43). Our 2 kids 10yrs and 12yrs will be coming with us. Timing will never work we've decided so time to just do it. Planning 6mth on/ fly home work and visit family then back to it for as long as we and the kids can cope.

BTW, I would bring the offshore yacht into shore just to check it out before buying it. It's kinda hard doing a survey out there with the swell going 3 meters....

Howdy and Welcome Aboard!

What a wonderful plan you have! Those kids are so lucky.

The Roberts 43s I have seen are roomy and look comfortable.

Happy holidays and congrats on the new boat!

Nice plan, wish you well. Hope the yacht has/meets most Cat 1 requirements. Can cost a bit if you don't have the gear.

Re: Kiwis on the cusp of actually buying an off shore yacht.

Hi NZMal
We are also cruising kiwis and are heading back to the land of the wrong white crowd at the moment where we were going to sell our Beneteau 473. We are having Christmas in Mackay Qld and then heading for home. If you are interested in a yacht that you can just step onto and go cruising this may be the one. No Cat 1 needed even though it would probably comply. We have just spent 3 years cruising Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines and you simply cannot fault these yachts. We would be prepared to include all sorts of goodies you normally would not get with a cruising yacht. If you are interested come back to us and we can talk further.
Best regards

Kiwis on the cusp of actually buying an off shore yacht.

Update...
Just reading some old threads...and thought it would be worth updating them.
We ended up buying a Cavalier 39. She's just been hauled for a week and we've done our first anti foul, replumbed the head, unstepped the mast with new wiring and LEDs and new rigging... Getting set for some Summer cruising in N Z.
Size is big enough...just, but small enough not to scare us and for easy handling and very affordable. Buying smaller has meant buying sooner and sailing sooner with fewer stresses.
