Hello all,
Been lurking around here on occasions for a while, but as I am now in the process of trying to buy my first
boat, thought actually registering might be a good idea.
My handle is OldPierre for historical reasons and one I use for all sorts of social media - whilst it may be partially accurate, it does not represent my attitude to life and I try to live life as a 27 year old, but the body often refuses to act in the similar manner
I learned to sail in my fathers dayboat on the Bristol Channel in the late 50's or early 60's - can't really remember when now. When he replaced this in the late 60's I took every opportunity to sail this out of Brixham, but by then I was heading off to a more permanent job on the
water.
My seagoing career started in 1967 when I went to sea on
commercial ships as a
deck apprentice, I left the sea full-time in 1979 when I got my masters certificate and then taught
navigation to students studying for their master's certificate in Brunel college, Bristol.
It is only comparatively recently that I started sailing again when a cousin's husband bought a 27 foot Prout
catamaran. Until then I was firmly a mono
hull afficianado and had been considering
buying one, but the experience of a cat in a good blow on the quarter convinced me that catamarans are MUCH moore comfortable and having looked at a number of larger cats find that the additional space makes them the ideal solution for me.
So, yes the
boat under consideration is a cat - Keeping fingers crossed for a successful purchase!!
