Just saying hi from Australia

Hello anybody who reads this

Just my introductory post. My name is Josh and I live in South Australia. Been reading the forum for years now, and early last year purchased my first real yacht, a 1986 Nordic 40. Been so impressed with her and looking forward to long distance cruising with my wife in the future. At 27, I'm one of the youngest boat owners at my sailing club and love trawling this forum for ideas/ information. Hoping to get involved and get some questions answered. Even though it is still early days owning a yacht this size, I'm rapidly learning the joy and pain of boat ownership. Being a tradesman in the building industry I like getting my hands dirty and working on her myself, I find it very enjoyable (apart from when i'm cursing at her).

Cheers

Good on you Josh, we need more young people owning boats.
That’s a nice yacht, I like the cockpit all enclosed with canvas. Not sure about the 1.9 meter draft but it will make her point well.
Cheers

G'Day Josh, and welcome to CF and to the "joys of boat ownership". We're here to help when we can, and to commiserate when we can't, so ask away.

Enjoy your Nordic and perhaps our wakes will cross one day.

Jim

Out of curiosity was Wild Goose originally in Florida?

Thanks,
Im extremely happy with her, the previous owner spent an incredible amount of money on her. I feel sorry that he didn't get to enjoy the benefits of the upgrades he did as he sold it before it was put back in the water after some extensive work, but his loss was massively my gain

The 1.9 meter draft is definitely something to watch out for, but she does point well and is so stable so has its advantages

Thanks Jim, when your out sailing it all seems worth it. The list of work seems to never end, I had the pleasure of having to rip out a leaking inbuilt water tank in the first few months, I seriously started to question my life choice but definitely worth it.
Hopefully we cross paths one day. I know a lot of retired cruisers, I thought I'd try to get into it a bit earlier rather than later in life

No idea. The broker didn't know about the history of the boat really, I have met a few people who know some of the local recent history of her in South Australia. I understand she was around north America for a fair while, not sure when it came over though
