Welcome to the forum Kerryp59

Someone else can probably give better advice than me on gas bottles since I have a metho stove. Nothing wrong with being middle aged. Many on this forum would love to be able to remember back that far. Safe journey home. Keep us posted on the journey.

Regards
Greg

Hi and welcome!

Thats a wonderful trip to bring the boat back home!

There are those that know far better than me, but you don't need to go too far south. It gets cold and lonely down there

You could even go to Sydney via the Caribbean and Pacific now thats a bit of warm fun

By the way, gas bottles are the same all over the world except for Europe.

All the best

Yes, welcome to the forum! The Atlantic 48 is an incredible boat - look forward to hearing about your experiences with her. As to gas bottles, Mark is correct. If you are referring to aluminum versus composite (and I am assuming steel is out due to rust and weight), I have aluminum although the new composites seem to be getting great reviews.

what a wonderful project. I note that right away there is something REALLY important you need to know...

You are not learning the ropes. Never say Ropes. They are Lines...

I know.... I've been told a thousand times...

; -D

welcome!

But if is subject was "Just learning the lines", I'd think he was some kind of actor.

"Many boaters will inform you that rope mysteriously turns into line the moment you get it aboard your boat and is never again referred to as rope. But perhaps that is an affectation born of a desire to be more nautical than one’s knowledge or experience permits, because there has always been rope on boats....

It’s true that for practical purposes ropes are given other names on boats, and may turn into sheets, halyards, warps, rodes, pendants, painters, hawsers, strops, cables, mooring lines, docklines, leech lines, heaving lines, downhauls, uphauls, out-hauls, guys, reef points, lashings, lanyards, preventers, and vangs, among others. But there are still also many “ropes” on a vessel, including the bolt rope, the tiller rope, the foot rope, the check rope, the dip rope, and others, including wire rope. ...

Most telling of all, a sailor’s own phrase for professional competence was “to know the ropes.” Not the lines."

Aloha and welcome aboard!
There is wire rope on sailing vessels. Just a technicality that should be ignored.
Anyway you can get a basic sailing course done if you are not way past that in your knowledge. It can help with learning sail trim and safety.
kind regards,
