Just joined the forum, so trying to find my way around
Folks,
More than 50 years ago, as a young physician, I was offered the opportunity to sail around most of the globe as the doc on Barquentine Verona, under the command of Christopher Sheldon. Now retired, I spent more than five years writing a book (The Wind Blew Me There: Memories of a Ship's Surgeon Aboard Barquentine Verona) about that that experience which may be of interest to some of you. The book is available on Amazon.
If noting this is against forum rules, kindly advise me and/or remove the post because I do want to follow the rules. My computer skills are less than robust, so I'm having a bit of trouble navigating the messaging system.

G'day Barnett, and welcome to CF. Once you get your bearings, you'll find this a friendly and informative place, and we welcome your inputs. Should imagine that with your background you should have some good stories, some of which could be true!
Anyhow, welcome aboard!
Jim

Re: Just joined the forum, so trying to find my way around
Welcome aboard Doc.
Sounds like a fascinating book and I shall look look it up on Amazon in the next 2 minutes.
Your post may be deleted shortly, the rules and the moderators are not on your side: I few days ago I posted a condo for rent with a 65’ dock in Fort Lauderdale, just what several member are looking for, but my posting was deleted: Rules are more important than anything else around here.
Good luck and may your posting last longer than 2 hours.

Re: Just joined the forum, so trying to find my way around
Have read and enjoyed your book (as you know)
Have had the pleasure of sailing with "the Doc" and he does have lots of stories, including the one where we were caught in a gale 60 miles off the east coast one dark night ....
welcome to the forum!

Re: Just joined the forum, so trying to find my way around
Welcome aboard, Doc.
As to navigating this forum, one hint I can give you is relative to the Search button (upper right blue band of "buttons" to "click"). If you want to search a subject, use the CF Google Custom Search, which appears in the menu when you click on Search. It will work for concepts. Using the plain CF search is trickier, if you know the exactly correct name of a thread, it can find it, but it is case sensitive and requires exact matching, whereas the Google Custom Search even compensates for typos.
Just wondering if you have a boat, Doc?
Ann
