You're getting some advice already so good for you. You're probably already sailors with basic skills so I won't advise a basic sailing course unless you've never had one. The USCG Auxiliary offers some fine classroom courses.

Congratulations on your new boat. The forum is a good place to spend some time on those long cold Maine days doing research. Feel free to ask anything here.....my experience is the advice is always worth more than you paid!

OBTW, I've had Shannon 28/18 since 1991, cruised Maryland to Bahamas and back, and lived aboard 3 years at one point....more than happy to share experiences.
