It's Gettin' on Towards Time ...

Having spent some time stocking up on the wisdom that is abundantly available on this site, we decided to take the next logical step and actually register.
There is a major life change on its way for us, and our hope is to sell our property(ies) on land and make the transition to full-time, live-aboard cruisers, although we may start off with some light "snowbirding" first.
There is much for us to learn and to decide on before we buy our boat, but we are confident that the information we find here, as well as other sites, will stand us in good stead.
Nice to meet you all!

Cheers,
Cindi & Matt

Snowbirding is a great way to go. It's another version of the six month on and six month off cruising schedule. We like that schedule because it leaves time for family and other activities.

thanks for all the support. bvh, the name is kind of an updated version of "don't put all your eggs in one basket" and it stems from looking around at the world and realizing that adage/wisdom has been pretty much ignored in our modern world; a total dependancy on a single resource ie energy (oil), or mono-cropping, or finances, education etc. Society has generally put itself out on a limb, as recent economic and ecological disasters have shown, and not paying attention to the warning signs and/or ignoring the inevitablity of such an existence.
So in the future course of our lives we are trying to do what we can to instill a lifestyle of 'nosinglesource' in our lives. Energy/travel? wind, water, solar, diesel (aboard or on land). Finances? small work annuity, market investments, real estate, etc. income from the sweat of our brow and residual income, as well as bartering. Food? markets, local small scale farmers/ranchers, the sea, perhaps from our own piece of undeveloped land (future investment retirement/income source.. )
Ok..I'm soap boxing a bit now. lol
I'll step off and leave it at that. We come not to preach, but to sail.

On that note I am drinking from the firehose of learning here and loving it!!

You should come to San Diego and recaulk my decks for me in order to get more experience in boat maintenance. Hell, I wouldn't even make you pay me.

You know rebel, if I could manage it right now I'd do it!!
I'm all about the learnin'! That and every time I've been to San Diego I've enjoyed it immensely. Sadly for you (and me) I think right now only the folks in my local marinas will be benefiting from my unpaid labour (learning). lol

G'Day Guys and welcome.

IMHO the snowbird plan sounds prudent until you are 100% sure the cruiser life is for you. But either way enjoy!
