IT illiterate

Hi. I'm Steve Smith from Darwin Australia. Never joined a forum like this. Am 60 years old and no social media skills. Have been liveaboard cruising last 20 years. My wife and I just bought a 20 year old Oceanus 411 and I have some specific questions that I thought this forum could help with. So here I am. Thanks

Re: IT illiterate

HI Steve and welcome to the forum,

No guarantees but there is a huge pool of members with knowledge on just about every thing you can imagine. 40+ years of boating and I still learn things here.

Hello and welcome Steve.

I highly recommend peeking into different forums here to get a feel for what gets discussed where. You can also try CF's search facility with terms you are interested in, to see what has already asked and answered.

Poke away! You can't break it.

i will second this recommendation. Over the years 99% of the basic boating questions have been discussed and the results accumulated in the archives. Try the google search for the easiest way to find stuff.

Re: IT illiterate

I first joined because so many of my early questions that I researched on the internet led here. There is a concentration of knowledge here that’s second to none. What’s more, anytime I get static or rebukes I just block the offender. Smooth sailing!

As an IT illiterate I have attached a screen copy for you to show what skipmac mentiones as the best search tool.
When clicking on search, you get a window with search options, use the second window from the top "Google Custom Search". This will instruct the google search engine to search in CF with the words you enter in the box.
Just try it for a couple of times, fairly simple. Good luck.

Re: IT illiterate

Welcome. I don't think of this as "social media" it's more like a real community.

And remember, many boat systems are NOT boat specific: electrical (Electrical Systems 101 http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,5977.0.html), plumbing and some mechanical things like engines aren't, for example.

Good luck and have fun.

Re: IT illiterate

Welcome aboard Steve from the other side of the Pacific. Nice to have another young guy join !! Lots of us paying attention to Tasmania over the holidays following the Sydney Hobart race. As others have said, good info and daily entertainment.

Re: IT illiterate

Thankyou so much everybody. Wow what a welcome. It's kind of overwhelming to me that strangers can be so generous with their time and opinions. Thanks again

Re: IT illiterate

Crikey Steve, I missed this thread earlier so here is a belated welcome aboard CF, cobber.

Looking forward to your questions as every question is an opportunity to learn something new!
