Introducing Rug Murray

I have been fortunate enough to stumble on this forum. My wife and I have decided that we want to join the cruising community. We have set a goal of launching ourselves out of our present situation and into/onto the Caribbean in two years. We have done bare boat sailing in the BVI and the Grenadines but stopped sailing when we discovered scuba. But, we know we need a lot of education and research before we can make that launch deadline. CWyckham has been kind enough to welcome me by suggesting The Voyageur's Handbook.
If there any other basic primers out there I would appreciate direction. Our long term goal is to sharpen our skills in the Caribbean (we live in Tampa) and then move ourselves and the boat to England (my wife's home) and beyond. Having lived in The Netherlands and Switzerland with many side trips to the South of France we know where we want to cruise - its just these small details about learning how that must be addressed.

Re: Introducing Rug Murray

Met a guy yesterday and the first book he read was "Survive the Savage Sea".

Don't read it! LOL

Just before I sailed solo across the Atlantic I read: "Adrift!" story of a solo sailor sunk on the Atlantic LOLOL

Don't read that one either

Have fun

Mark

Re: Introducing Rug Murray

Yes, those are two that you must never read! Well, unless you get very curious.

When I started living aboard I just kind of moved aboard and did the same things I did as a bachelor ashore only in a smaller space with less storage for cold beer and refrigerated foods. Now I'm not a bachelor nor am I living aboard but I'm still dreaming of cruising sometime again. I stay current by taking any courses that are offered concerning sailing and piloting or trying to teach others the same.
kind regards,
