Introducing My Boat and ...oh yeah...Me!

Westerly Berwick 31 currently under the last gasp final stages of a massive refit and upgrade. Currently it's at Port Townsend, Washington, USA. Prior to that I had the Centaur 26 and both are twin keelers. Both are excellent blue water hull designs as well but the Berwick needed tweaking a bit.

I chose Westerly's as I wanted two diametrically opposed capabilities. Safe blue water cruising and superior shallow water ability upon arrival. Canals, rivers, anywhere shallow. Also I liked their fiberglass construction. Built in the 70's they are very heavy duty and not eggshell thin like a lot made today. Racing was and is not a consideration.

There's more of course but I'm about to leave for Ascencion Island to do a freighter job. I'm crew on merchant ships and that is a neat way to fund buying and outfitting a sailboat.

But I'm finally closing in on middle age, social security could start as of this year and it's time to start thinking more of sailing and less of work. As I said the boat's in the Pacific NW and I live in Florida now so the obvious way to get the boat here is follow Horace Greely's advice.

In the time I have before leaving should anyone have questions about these boats I'll be glad to post or direct you to some good information sources. We may or may not have 'net access out there.

Note I'm sometime opinionated but try to be scrupulously honest about it...dealing it facts not myths.

Which reminds me I need some information on my prop shaft I'ld better go post that!

Cheers

Michael
