In North Florida Seeking Cal 31 info

First thanks for the great community and this grand compendium of information you have built.

Does anyone have opinions or experience with the Cal 31? I am looking at a 1979 and a 1981 tomorrow.

The mission for the new-to-me boat is coastal cruising out of Fernandina Beach and living aboard two or three night a week in the Marina as a way to get away.

I see all sorts of posts about the Cal 30 and the Cal 34 and Cal 40, but little about the Cal 31 (I guess really 31.5).

Thanks,

And thank for letting me aboard.

Welcome aboard!

As a Cal owner myself I heartily approve of your plan!

You will get better response if you post it in the monohull forum ; -)

This is a pretty thorough review: www.richardanderson.net/TechSavvy/CAL_BOATS_files/Cal%2031%20...

The boats you are looking at have probably already been upgraded to address the deck hardware leak issues common to this era and especially the chainplates but I would check to make sure. Get a look at the steel mast support under the main bulkhead. Make sure leaks haven't damaged the main bulkhead teak veneer plywood and weakened it (mine was chainplated to beef it up.)

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I've sailed aboard a Cal 2-30 and a 2-46 and found them to have pretty good construction.
That's probably not too helpful but thought I'd mention it.
kind regards,
