Welcome, Cate There is a wealth of knowledge to be tapped here if you know the right questions. I'll point out a couple of no-no's to steer away from, in case you want to avoid the (sometimes beyond hilarious) drama that can erupt here:

1. Try not to talk about anchor types. Talking about anchor rode, anchor chain, anchor snubbers or anchorages is just fine and dandy, but people get a little...umm...righteous (in the biblical, Old Testament sense of the word) when discussing anchor types, especially when comparing them one to another. It's basically like comparing the physical assets of your partner to someone walking past on the street. It just never goes well.

2. Try not to question 'production boat' seaworthiness, or include the words 'blue water' in a query regarding a given boat type's ability to handle dangerous weather. Normally jovial members here can instantly turn feral when these questions are asked by a member with fewer than ~100(?) posts. Try to maneuver carefully in these waters, for there be hidden reefs and sharks aplenty.

Did I forget anything, guys? Mostly, I think that's it

Oh yeah, and enjoy yourself. The Joke Thread is unbelievable. I'm only like a third of the way through it.

Well, that does it. I'll be in the bunker a half mile below ground. We're about to experience a CF apocalypse, complete with zombies and jukeboxes playing 1930's music. You're bad, boatman. I was just getting used to the fresh(er) air 'round here.

Be sure to take along your production boat with 20 batteries from Costco, being powered by 20 wind generators in order to power the watermaker, so you can take a hot tub bath everyday, and to power the spot lights, so you can tun on the lights to use your AK-47 when people get too close, because no one has the right to board you and charge you any fees!

Who says I haven't learning anything in the years I've been reading CF
:-)
