How Y'all Doin' ?

How Ya'll doin'
I just quit my job and and on the way to Miami to get a boat, got a few to look at and then will get the one that fit's me best. I want to go to Jamacia to help my cousin and his band build houses. I am mostly going to cook for them and listen to Reggae but I might end up working too. I was wondering the best way to sail there from Miami, I was thinking that the Cuba/Hati route might not be safe in a slow sailboat. I would like to avoid "donating" to the local pirates. Also what is a a good draft for the islands, I am going for under 5'6" but there are a few boats that are 6' that I like. I have only had mono-hulls and am not sure if a multi is right for me. Any help, Ideas, and stories would be grate, Thanks alot

Welcome to the forum Chef. I notice your profile says 35 - 40 foot is your goal so I'm guessing the 5.5-6 foot in your post was some kind of typo?

I'll leave it to others to advise you on the best route.

Welcome to CF

Haven't heard about any pirate activity between Haiti and Cuba. But you can check here:

I'm not sure what point Hummingway is trying to make either.

A 41ft Morgan will have a 4' 6" draft, a 40' Bristol will have a draft of 5' 6". Both boats can make the trip.
