Hi from western South Dakota
Hello, everyone. Im an older guy with a nice little sloop. She's an Aquarius 21. A very tough little trailer sailor. My bride and I have drug her from Ontario, to Arizona, to Florida, to Texas, and many points in between. I taught myself to sail after building a board boat as a Jr High school shop class project back in 1959.
Other hobbies include flying (SEL), and HAM radio.

Howdy Dave - welcome to the Forum. That HAM radio expertise may come in handy for those of us that still have SSBs onboard.

Thanks, Do you perchance also sail in the LOWISA? We've missed several years now.

Welcome Aboard, Dave!
TimeTheory is a fellow Member who is at the beginning of his trailer-sailer oddessy.
Once you're able to post threads (after 10 posts, I believe) maybe you'll consider some thread topics around trailer-sailers...?
You'll also find that there are many, many members who are also pilots. Wonder why that is... Haha
Fair winds to you and the Admiral,

Ontario, a small providence...NOT !
Hello right back. Im afraid my knowledge of Ontario is limited to the Northwest portion.
My wife comes from Baudette Minnesota, right across the river from Rainy River, ON. We have pulled our sloop StarShine up to Lake of the Woods to sail many times, basing out of Kenora, ON. Beautiful area.
Where in ON are you based?

Re: Hi from western South Dakota
Hello Dave
I'm from the Minneapolis area and have traveled both to Lake of the Woods and to Lake Pactola and the surrounding area. Have been scuba diving in both those lakes but not sailing. We used to fish for lake trout in Lake of the Woods in the Bell Island area south of Sioux Narrows before the border closed.
I would like to sail Lake of the Woods with my Hunter 26 some day when the politics of the border closure resolves. Logistics are still problematic. It's a long, narrow, winding road from Fort Francis to Kenora and I guess there's just the one marina there. Not sure how welcome itinerant boats are there. We would like to stay at anchor but I can't find any reliable information on where the "green zones" boundaries are since overnight stays at anchor are supposed to be prohibited in the "green zone" unless you're a resident of Ontario. I'd be interested in your experiences and insights.
Have also thought of launching in Warroad and sailing to the Kenora area. The river there is shallow but we could get through it with the board up.

Re: Hi from western South Dakota
Hi,
We've done both, really three launched at Warroad, trailed up the West side, and the East side.
When trailering up I've launched in downtown Kenora, and out at the city's park (by Walmart) and out at Northern Harbor.
I'D advise looking up the LOWISA on the web. That race/cruising organization is a fine way to learn a lot about the lake in the company of like minded sailors, no small number are from the twin cities area.

Re: Hi from western South Dakota
Hi Dave. I live in Ottawa, our national Capitol. I sail out of Whitby (Toronto). I've canoed and camped up at lake of the woods. Almost moved there. My family is mostly American but all in the deep south.
