Hi from Tennessee!

Hello from beautiful Tennessee! I've always had a fascination with sailing and have not yet had the opportunity to even set foot on a proper sailboat. After a recent anniversary cruise around the Caribbean, I decided to chase this dream of mine.

I'm diving deep into resources - reading books, joining forums, learning all that I can on dry land. My goal is to eventually purchase our retirement plan - a sailboat big enough to spend weeks on and sail around North America. Any others who have gotten started in land-locked states? Thanks and so happy to be here!

Hello Mseant. I live in the mountains of WNC. It is not a landlocked state, but it is closer to go to S.C. to get to the ocean. Here is a thread about learning to sail far from the ocean. https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3680593

Re: Hi from Tennessee!

We live outside Kingsport on Patrick Henry Lake and keep a Tanzer 22 on Watauga Lake and a Pacific Seacraft 34 in New Bern, NC. We bought the Tanzer in 1981, and it has traveled miles and miles on its trailer and sailed the east coast from above Baltimore to St Augustine and the length of the Tennessee River from Knoxville to Paducah. After we retired in 2004 we bought the Pacific Seacraft and in addition to several trips to the Chesapeake Bay and the sounds of North Carolina, we have made thirteen winter/spring trips to the Bahamas spending five or six months on the boat each time.

Re: Hi from Tennessee!

Which part of Tennessee?

It so different in all of the three "states."

I learned sailing in Tennessee and Mississippi on the TVA Lakes etc. when I lived in Memphis.

Akabutla and Sardis in Mississippi, Percy Priest Lake in Nashville, and Pickwick Lake.

I raced Hobie 16's on those lakes and crewed on monohulls at Pickwick Lake.

Started sailing a 25’ on Wheeler Lake and then a 34’ on Watts Bar Lake over almost 20 years. Currently have a 47’ in Florida. Go for it!

Re: Hi from Tennessee!

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.
