Hi from Quarantine

Hi,
I have followed this forum for a couple of years but just registered today.
Sitting here for a mandatory two week quarantine sentence for the second time this year in Darwin Australia. Just came back from a job where we left the ship next to Singapore at Johor Bahru. Where we had to undergo two weeks quarantine there, followed by twelve days free and then herded back into the airport cattle races to land here.
Wet season up here in the Oz top end, with spectacular lighting storms. Can't wait to get back to my boat thats only 30km's away in a local marina. (My partner still onboard keeps my mind at ease by keeping a good watch on things).
We have had the yacht 3 years now. Originally found in a very neglected state, till now where we can concentrate on the finer accessories that makes cruising life more comfortable and also adds to an extra layer of safety.
The toys I am looking at getting now once I am released is an AIS system. Looking into how to interface it with other devices onboard eg: plotter, VHF, Raspberry Pi with backup charts etc.
Want to get out next year and at least do some cruising in the Kimberley's (Bonaparte gulf and Buccaneer archipelago) and hopefully if the borders open participate in the Darwin to Ambon rally that's run by the local Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association.
Cheers and safe sailing
Dave & Clare

Re: Hi from Quarantine

Welcome aboard Dave, and I hope that CF can help you survive quarantine. With luck the covid situation will ease up enough that we can all return to our preferred cruising lives with unfettered boarder crossings and entries to foreign lands (or Oz for that matter!).

Jim

In Hobart, Lots of good memories of good times there. Good cruising ground to be found all about's nearby. If the weather is kind hope you get the chance to visit Macquarie harbour and Port Davey.

Dave, no longer in Hobart... wending our way back to Port Cygnet where we spend a lot of time hanging about. The channel is a trove of anchorages and vistas, and after 28 years of cruising there, we still find new spots to enjoy.

And we've made a few trips to Pt Davey and a couple to Mac harbour and the lovely Gordon River over the years... wonderful places indeed!
